1.
Why was Bill so sure that he knew the
mouse ate the cheese? Were his reasons
good ones?
Bill saw the mouse eat the cheese with his own eyes, he witnessed it
happen. I’d say his reasons were good, because you cant really deny that
someone has not seen something when you, yourself don’t even know if he really
witnessed it.
2.
Two other people claimed to know that the mouse ate the cheese – Virginia and
Adrian. What
were
their reasons ? Were these reasons
adequate?
Their
reasons were that they were told by bill, who they trust to relay reliable
information to them. This reason is okay, but its not a good one, since its
still shared knowledge and is not proven.
3.
Alice only claimed to believe that the
mouse ate the cheese. Why did she not claim to know it?
Because
she did not see the mouse eat the cheese, she made the story up of the mouse
eating the cheese.
4. Did Bill, Virginia and Adrian believe that the mouse ate the cheese? Can we
know anything
without
believing it?
Bill
knows that the mouse ate the cheese since he witnessed it first hand. Adrian and
Virginia believed bills claim that the mouse ate the cheese. I think, you can
believe something that you haven’t experienced first hand, but you cant know
it, until you have witnessed it first hand and have experiential knowledge of
the fact you cant claim to know it.
5. George neither knew nor believed
that the mouse ate the cheese. Why? Can you think of anything
that
might have convinced him that the mouse ate the cheese?
Because
he believes strongly that his apartment is mouse proof. George’s belief is so
strong, he doesn’t want to be proven wrong on something he claims to know so
well.
6. Under what circumstances would everyone at
the party have known that the mouse ate
the cheese?
If
they all witnessed the mouse eat the cheese.
